Singulair is leukotrienes receptor. Human body system releases antibodies known as leukotriene. Leukotriene is responsible to cause inflammation, contraction of muscle lining airways (bronchial tubes) and mucous production which results in difficulty in breathing.
Montelukast is generic for singulair. It is indicated to treat asthama and breathing problem.

Singulair belong to class of LTRA (leukotriene receptor antagonist). Motelukast sodium is active ingredient of singulair. Motelukast prevents leukotrienes from performing its actions.

Leukotrienes gets activated by sticking to its receptors. Singulair releases montelukast sodium in body. Motelukast binds itself to the receptors of leukotrienes. This prevents leukotrienes from being activated which eventually give relief from asthma.
How to take Singulair
Asthma: Take 10mg tablets every night.
Breathing Problem: Take 10mg singulair 1.5 to 2 hours before exercise.

Precautions to take Singulair
- Singulair is not for quick relief from sudden asthma attack (acute asthma attacks). Your physician may prescribe nasal spray or other medicines for instant effect. Ask your doctor for guidelines about how to handle sudden attack of asthma.
- Singulair should be used cautiously for patient with disorder of protein metabolism.
- Patients with liver disease or any ongoing treatment should take singulair after consolation with doctor.
