Atacand or candesartan cilexetil is a medications which is used to control high blood pressure. Atacand works through blocking the effects the hormone known as angiotensin II. Atacand works against this hormone by relaxing and expanding the blood vessels, thus allowing blood pressure to be lowered.

Atacand can be used alone or with other medications for high blood pressure. It can also be prescribed for other conditions and purposes as determined by your doctor.

You should not use Atacand if you have an allergy to candesartan cilexetil.

Atacand should be taken regularly so that it would be effective. Because blood pressure generally declines slowly, it could take several weeks before you are able to get the significant benefits from the medication. You should continue to take it even when you are already feeling better.

Note that Atacand is not used to completely cure or treat high blood pressure. It just keep blood pressure under control.
